A Sesquicentennial History of the Green River Missionary Baptist Church 1836 - 1986, Written and Compiled by Wendell Holmes Rone, Sr., For the One Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of the Founding of the Church, 1987. By permission of author. Ohio County. G. H. LAWRENCE was the Nineteenth Pastor to serve the Green River Church, filling the office from January through December, 1907. He was an active Baptist Pastor in Ohio, Muhlenberg, Butler, Warren and Logan Counties over a period of forty-nine years, being ordained to the Ministry in 1896. He served 31 Churches as Pastor in quarter, half and full-time work. He was about seventy years of age at his death, in 1945. In the course of his ministry he held 254 revival meetings and baptized 990 persons on profession of faith. One obituary noticed stated that: "The blessings of his devoted life and ministry will continue as he goes to be with his Master." We regret that we do not have many particulars concerning his useful life. He preached the Annual Sermon before the Second Annual Meeting of the Ohio County Association, in 1902. Additional information on Brother G. H. Lawrence shows that he was born on November 13, 1867 and died on January 27, 1945 in his seventy-seventh year. Also, his wife's name was Bina (Stanley) Lawrence (b. August 20, 1876). He was the son of Joseph Lawrence and Mary (Shrene) Lawrence.
