"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, pp. 394-395. Used by permission. [Ohio] ARTHUR HOLLAND: The subject of this sketch first saw the light of day near Auburn, Kentucky, on July 7, 1886, and is the son of R. C. and Sue B. Holland. He grew up on a farm and attended the schools at hand. After graduating from high school at Auburn, Kentucky, he attended Bethel College, Russellville, Kentucky, in preparation for the work of the ministry. He was converted at the age of sixteen and united with the Friendship Church, Logan County, Kentucky, being baptized by Rev. John Henry Moore. He had previously united with the Cumberland Presbyterians at the age of ten but was not saved. After his experience of grace he began to study the Bible on the subjects of Baptism and the Church and in consequence he became a Baptist. His home Church licensed him to preach in 1908 and in the year 1910 he was ordained to the work of the ministry by this same Church with Revs. A. C. Dorris, the pastor, John Kinnidy, F. M. Welborn, and Wood Hall serving as the council of ordination. Immediately after his ordination he entered the pastorate of his home Church. He also served the Cave Spring, Whittaker's Chapel, Elk Lick, Beechland, and Mt. Pleasant Churches in Logan County; Dunmor, Ky.; Kelly's Station; South Carrollton; and Drakesboro, Kentucky. He served the Station, Sacramento, and Island Churches in this Association for part time. In the years 1923-1929 he served the Whitesville Church for full time. His other full time pastorates have been at Hartford, Smithland, Eddyville ,and Fredonia. He served Bell's Run Church in connection with the Whitesville pastorate and Liberty and Pleasant Hill in connection with the pastorate at Eddyville. Since 1936 he has pastored Panther Creek, Clear Run, Dundee, Concord, and Barnett's Creek Churches in Ohio County, and at one time was pastor of Beech Creek Church, Muhlenberg County. He is still a pastor in Ohio County at present and makes his home on a small farm near Mt. Carmel Church on the Owensboro-Hartford road. He has served as the Moderator of the Logan County Association and as a member of the Mission Boards of the Logan County, Muhlenberg, Daviess-McLean Ohio County, Ohio River, and Caldwell County Associations. He led the Drakesboro, Whitesville, and Eddyville Churches to adopt full time preaching and laid the ground work for the erection of a twenty-room annex at the Whitesville Church and also a nineteen-room annex at the Eddyville Church. Both of these annexes were completed soon after his retirement from the pastorate of these Churches. Seven young men have been converted under his ministry who later became ministers of the Gospel. They are: George D. Park, Louis Dobbins, Raymond Stovall Terrel, Drexel Hankins, Renich Dailey, and Imon Lee Baughn. This alone gives ample proof of his missionary and evangelistic spirit in his preaching and life. Our brother first married Miss Pearl Robbins in 1908. She was the daughter of J. L. and Paralee Robbins. Three sons and one daughter blessed this union. His first wife died in 1927 and in the year 1928 he married Miss Thelma Patton, the daughter of Clarence and Jessie Patton, of Ohio County. Two sons and four daughters have blessed this second union. The two youngest daughters are twins. The life and ministry of Brother Holland has been a blessing to multitudes and his contribution to the furtherance of the work of Baptists in the Associations and Churches where he has served has been noteworthy. He is an able Bible student and expositor of the Word of God and has built up his Churches in the Doctrines believed by Baptists.
