Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Monroe County. ISHAM D. KIDWELL was born January 30, 1829, in Monroe County, where he grew up and now resides. His father, William Kidwell, was born about 1795, in Virginia. At the age of about twelve years he removed with his parents to Monroe County (then Cumberland), where he resided until his death. He was a son of Matthew Kidwell, formerly of Maryland and latterly of Virginia. He was a soldier in the Revolutinary war under Gen. Morgan. William Kidwell was twice married; his first wife, whom he married about 1818, was Mary F.,daughter of Ephraim and Anna (Peak) Dicken. To their union one son and five daughters were born, of whom Isham D. is the fourth child. The marriage of our subject with Sarah A., daughter of John W. and Mary (Pace) Williams, took place June 12, 1851. To them have been born John F., Martin D., Samuel T., Parmelia (Hammel), Nancy C. and Mary F. Mr. Kidwell started life first as a teacher and farmer and afterward as a merchant, in which latter business he has engaged since 1852. By idustry and economy he has become the owner of about 600 acres of land in a fine state of cultivation, besides which he is the owner of a good store, well stocked with marketable goods. He was for several years magistrate and member of the court of claims of Monroe County, and is at present the postmaster at Meshack postoffice. He is a believer in the doctrines of the Christian Church, and in politics is a stanch Democrat.
