Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Monroe County. DAVID T. CLOYD was born about 1841, in Cumberland County, Ky., where he grew up. At the age of eighteen years he removed to Monroe County, where he now resides. In August, 1861, he enlisted in Company J, First Kentucky Cavalry, with which he served until December 25, 1864, when he received his honorable discharge. His father, Carey Cloyd, was born about 1797, in Virginia; he was a son of James Cloyd, who was of Irish descent. Carey Cloyd was united in marriage with Nancy Spearman, and to them eleven children were born, of whom David T. is the tenth. He married, July 20, 1859, America, daughter of Hiram and Susan (Milan) Biggerstaff, of Monroe County. To them have been born Nancy S., Mary H., Sally M. (Williams), Elizabeth (deceased), Martha E., William M., Hiram B., Joe L., Ollerson and Ada F. Mr. Cloyd has become the owner of about 575 acres of land, on which he has erected a very comfortable home for his family. He is a believr in the doctrines of the Christian Church, and in politics is a Democrat.
