Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Monroe County. JACOB BUSHONG was born January 9, 1836, in Winston County, Miss. At the age of two years he removed with his parents to Monroe County, and located on the waters of the East fork of Little Barren River, in the State of Kentucky. He was during the late war a member of Company B, Fifth Kentucky Cavalry, with which he served for three years, six months and nineteen days. His father, George Bushong, was born December 12, 1807, in Monroe County, on the farm where he now resides. At twenty years of age, removed to Pickens County, Ala., and after eleven years' residence there and in Mississippi, he returned to Kentucky, where he now resides. He is a son of George Bushong, Sr., who was born in Virginia about 1765, was a soldier in the war of 1812, and of German descent. George Bushong, the father of Jacob, first married, about 1828, Nancy, daughter of William Parker. To them were born Joseph A., Martha (Hammer), William D., George W., Jacob, Henry, Perry, Nancy J. (Sartin), Sarah E. (Bumgarner), and Mary C. (Page). His second marriage took place about 1860, with Mrs. Patsey Maxey, daughter of Benjamin Biggerstaff. To them one child was born, John, deceased. His third marriage took place in 1862, with Mrs. Mary Simpson, daughter of William Rush. They have no children. Jacob Bushong married, June 14, 1868, Mary, daughter of Jesse and Edie Hedrick, of Monroe County. She was born March 24, 1847. To them have been born Bessie E., George W., Willie D. G. and Nancy P. E. Our subject began life without any assistance and by his own labor has become the owner of 300 acres of good land, in fine condition; he also owns and operates a grist-mill on the east fork of Little Barren River. He is a farmer, and has for some time been a miller, in connection therewith. He is a member of the Christian Church, and in politics a Republican.
