Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Metcalfe County. WILLIAM W. HAMILTON was born February 8, 1852, in Adair (now Metcalfe County), Ky. He is the sixth child born to Edward and Malinda (Cox) Hamilton. (See Dr. Hamilton's sketch for further history). William W. Hamilton was reared on a farm, received a plain English education and made sufficient progress to enable him to teach. He remained with his parents until his marriage, February 6, 1878, to Mary B. Royse, of Metcalfe County, Ky., a daughter of Hiram and Jane (Wheeler) Royse, of Adair County. Three children were born to this union - but one now living, Hiram E. Mrs. Hamilton died in March, 1879, a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. Hamilton married his second wife, Idel Masters, of Metcalfe County, November 23, 1882. She is a daughter of William J. and Amanda (Stark) Masters, who were born and reared in Barren County. Two children were born to this union - one living, Carlos. Mr. Hamilton is a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He is also a leading member of the Masonic fraternity. When first married he located in the eastern part of Metcalfe County. In April, 1880, he located where he now resides, and where he owns 160 acres of good land. He is also engaged in the mercantile business, in which he has met with excellent success. Also owns two other farms of 100 and 200 acres, all excelland land and in good condition. Is also interested in a saw-mill. Mr. Hamilton has been very successful in life, acquiring what he has by his own industry and energy. He has been postmaster at Beachville since 1880. In politics he is a Democrat, and cast his first presidential vote for H. Greeley.
