GARMAN was born February 28, 1842, in Adair County (now Metcalfe), Ky., where he grew to manhood, and has always resided. His father, Samuel Garman, is a native of Cumberland County, and died in Metcalfe County in 1864. He married Betsey, daughter of Allen Chambers, of Adair County, and their offspring are Adam, Betsey, A. (Garrett), George, Susan (Mosby), Robard, Francis M., Samuel R., Polly (Franklin), and Alfred A. The last name was married, August 16, 1860, to Polly, daughter of Adam and Polly (Burnett) Garman, of Cumberland County (born February 8, 1843), and to them have been born Samuel A., Elizabeth J. (Garman), Delila J., Amelia A., Matilda M., General W., Alfred M., Emery F., John R. and Lena. Mr. Garman has made his way in life by his own efforts and has secured an ample competency. He is a farmer, owning 119 1/2 acres of productive land in a high state of cultivation. He is a Baptist and a Democrat.
