Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Metcalfe County. WILLIAM A. CONYERS was born February 4, 1838, in Hart County, Ky., and in infancy was brought by his grandparents to Metcalfe County, where he grew to manhood and has since resided. In 1861 he enlisted in Company K, Twenty-first Kentucky Federal Infantry, in which he was promoted to sergeant, and served seven months and eleven days. His father, Paschal C. Conyers, died in Arkansas, in 1862; he was the son of William Conyers. Paschal C. was twice married; first, to Eliza A., daughter of Andrew and Rhoda (Atkinson) Ralston, of Metcalfe County, and from their union sprang John M. J., Thomas A. and William A. The second wife of Paschal C. was Tabitha Gooch, and they were favored by the birth of eight children. With but limited opportuities for procuring an education, our subject improved his advantages to the best of his ability, and is a reading man. He married, September 6, 1866, Mary B., daughter of John L. and Eliza J. (Minton) Wilcoxson, of Metcalfe County, born October 27, 1850, and to them have been born Thomas E., John E., Ann E., Mary A. and Harriett E. In the beginning of his business career Mr. Conyers had to rely upon his own effort, but by industry has secured a comfortable home. He engaged in the saddlery business for four years, but is now a farmer, having 138 acres of fertile land, in good condition. He is a Chapter and also a Council member of the Masonic fraternity, and in politics is a Republican and a Prohibitionist.
