SAMUEL DEMAREE was born July 30, 1816, in Jessamine County, Ky., but was brought up principally in Mercer County, and is a son of Peter Demaree, a native of Shelby County (this State), and born there in 1780. Samuel's grandfather, John D. Demaree, was a Revolutionary soldier, and a native of New Jersey. Samuel Demaree was brought up on the farm, and received but a common school education. He owns a good farm of 213 acres, a little north of Salvisa. He has been three times married: first to Miss Frances Leathers, of Anderson County; second to Miss Louisa Forsten, of Woodford County, by whom he had one child, Annie B.; his third wife was Miss Racie L. Smith (also deceased). This marriage resulted in the birth of three children: Mary L., Rosella and Maggie L. Mr. Demaree is a member of the Methodist Church and of the Democratic party.
