[McLean] DEACON VERNON UNDERWOOD: This beloved brother has been Clerk of the Buck Creek Church for the past twenty-seven years and has served as a Deacon for the past twenty-nine years. His father before him served as the Clerk of this Church for forty years and as a deacon for a considerable length of time also. Vernon Underwood was born near Livia, McLean County, Kentucky. on July 31, 1886, and is the son of W. C. and Judith Bell Underwood. He grew up on a farm and attended the rural schools at hand and has continued the occupation of farming to the present time. He was converted at Old Buck Creek Church in the year 1902 under the preaching of Rev. J. N. Jarnagin and was later baptized into the fellowship of the Buck Creek Church by Rev. E. B. Farrar. Since the year 1914 he has been a deacon of the Church and has been the Clerk since 1917. He has also served as a messenger to the Association on several occasions in that period of time. He is a man of grave deportment and is loved and respected for his manly Christian spirit. He is unmarried.
