Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 2nd ed., 1885, McLean Co. MARCUS L. BOARD, McLean County, was born January 14, 1833, in Breckinridge County, Ky., and is a son of Juball and Sally (Dent) Board, native of Virginia; the former was a son of William Board, who married Miss Maize, and who came to Kentucky and settled in Breckinridge County, about the year 1810; the latter was a daughter of William Dent, a native of Virginia, who came to Kentucky and settled in the north end of Breckinridge County in a very early day. He owned a large number of slaves, and was one of the wealthy farmers of the county. Marcus L. was brought up on a farm, and had only such advantages for mental culture as were afforded by the common schools of his native county. He remained with his parents until he was twenty-four years of age. In March, 1857, he married America Vickers, a daughter of John Vickers, who married a Miss Landers. They had one child: John W. Board. Mr. Board upon his marriage located in McLean County, near Sacramento, and engaged in farming, which he continued for eight years. He then went into the insurance business and after trying other branches of business and making a trip to Texas, he settled down to the drug business in 1874, in Sacramento, a business in which he is still engaged. Mrs. Board was a member of the Baptist Church; she died in May 1865. He is a Mason and politically a Democrat.
