HISTORY OF KENTUCKY, by Lewis Collins, and J.A. & U.P. James, published 1847. Reprinted by Henry Clay Press, Lexington, Ky., 1968, pp. 126. [Mason county]. SAMUEL TUCKER was appointed from the Baltimore Conference of 1790, to Limestone circuit (now Maysville). Leaving his friends and all behind, he started to preach Jesus on the work assigned him, but in descending the Ohio river, or at or near the mouth of Brush creek, about thirdy miles below Portsmouth, the boat in which he was descending was attacked by Indians, and the most of the crew were killed; but he continued to defend the boat with his rifle, until it floated out into the stream, beyond the reach of the Indians pursuing. He arrived at Limestone, and there died of his wounds. His remains now line in the cemetery in Maysville, unhonored - the spot unknown. [Methodist Episcopal].
