Kentucky: A History of the State, Perrin, Battle, Kniffin, 4th ed., 1887, Marion County. WILLIAM O. EDWARDS was born April 9, 1851. He is a son of James F. and Martha (Walston) Edwards. The former was born in Marion County in 1813; his wife, Martha, whom he married in 1844, died in 1862, at the age of forty years; she was the mother of three sons and four daughters, William O. being the third child. James Edwards, after the death of his first wife, married Miss Eliza Bottom. She died in 1882, and two years later he married Mrs. Elizabeth Dye, who is yet (1886) living. Josiah Edwards, the father of James F., was a native of St. Mary's County, Md. While he was yet a lad his father (who was also named Josiah) removed from Maryland and located in Marion County. His family consisted of eight children: Elkamah, Josiah, John, Stouton, Joseph, Hezekiah, Henry and Ann (Sharp). William O. Edwards, a native of Boyle County, from his tenth to his eighteenth year was a student in Harmonia College at Perryville, Ky. After leaving school he chose the profession of teaching, which he followed for eleven years, and since 1880 has been engaged in farming. He is an official member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. His wife, Fannie L., who he married June 19, 1879, is a daughter of Nathan W. and Keziah (Brand) Pipes, the former of Scotch descent and a native of Boyle County, Ky., the latter of Scotch-German descent and born in Bourbon County. The grandfather of Nathan W. was John Pipes, of South Carolina. He came to Kentucky in 1800, and afterward married Miss Mary Morris. They reared a family of three sons and seven daughters, one of whom was Nathaniel, the father of Nathan W. The latter is yet living, and is one of the "solid" farmers of Marion County, in which county he has for many years been a magistrate. He is a member of the Christian Church. His wife, Keziah (Brand) Pipes, is a daughter of James and Catherine (Link) Brand, of Bourbon County, Ky. The great grandparents of Mrs. Fannie Edwards were Jacob Link and Elizabeth (Creagor) Link, the former born in 1762, the latter in 1769. Both were natives of Frederick County, Md., and of German parents. They came to Kentucky in 1797 and settled in Bourbon County, where they reared a family of five sons and four daughters, among whom was Catherine Link, who married James Brand. He died in Washington County, Ky., in 1847. His widow survives, aged eighty-nine years. She resides in Marion County, and is the mother of nine children, of whom Mrs. Keziah Pipes is the sixth. Dr. Richard Brand, the father of James Brand, was a native of Maryland. He came to Kentucky, and located near Paris, in Bourbon County, in 1797. Mrs. Fannie Edwards, the wife of William O. Edwards, and her mother are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
