A History of Masonry in Madison County, Kentucky 1812-1913, compiled and written by Robert R. Burnam, 1914, p. 54. JOSEPH TURNER was born in Madison County November 29, 1793. He married Miss Kerley. He spent his whole life among the people where he was born, filling the many positions accorded to him with the strictest fidelity. He was a magistrate, sheriff, member of the legislature. An earnest and devout Christian gentleman. He was for many years a Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church. While Richmond Lodge may have had many men to preside over it more distinguished in the various walks of life, it never had one more gentle, courteous, or who more truly had all the qualities which go to make up the useful and noble citizens than Joseph Turner. He died November 30, 1854, and was buried in the local cemetery. He was raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason June, 1818. He was elected Worshipful Master June, 1821. He also served the Lodge subsequently as Treasurer from 1828 to 1830. He was designated also in the charter as the first High Priest of Richmond Royal Arch Chapter in 1830.
