A History of Masonry in Madison County, Kentucky 1812-1913, compiled and written by Robert R. Burnam, 1914, p. 98. DAVID RUSSEL TEVIS was the son of James Tevis and Mary Russel. His father was a Confederate soldier and for many years County Clerk of Madison County. His mother was a niece of Hon. John White, at one time speaker of the National House of Representatives. The subject of this sketch was educated at old Central University and early in life embarked in business. He was for one term mayor of Richmond. He received all the degrees of York Rite Masonry in the local bodies. He was elected Master of his Lodge December 27, 1898, and Eminent Commander of Richmond Commandery; April, 1901, serving one term in each position. He had previously filled the various positions in each body necessary for advancement. He married Miss Lizzie, the second daughter of John Speed Smith, Jr. He removed in 1909 to Seattle, Washington, where he still lives.
