A History of Masonry in Madison County, Kentucky 1812-1913, compiled and written by Robert R. Burnam, 1914, p. 85. MATT H. STOCKTON was the son of Edward D. Stockton and Mary Curtis. He was born in Winchester, Kentucky, August 12, 1850, and died in Richmond April 12, 1891. He received his education at the schools of his native County and at the Kentucky Military Institute. The latter just after the close of the war, under the superintendency of Col. Allen, ranked very high. The training was both military and literary. After completing his course at the Institute Mr. Stockton came to Richmond and began his business life with James P. Herndon in the drug business and continued in the same business until his death. He was made a Mason March 13, 1874, passed April, 1874, and raised May 26, 1874. Received the Capitular degrees in 1875 and was Knighted August, 1875. Was elected Master of his Lodge December, 1879, serving one year, having previously served as both Junior and Senior Warden. He was elected Eminent Commander May, 1882.
