Shackelford anal Mary Bates, was born in Clark County, Kentucky, April 4, 1862. His family name has been a familiar one in Madison County from its earliest history. The subject of this sketch was educated at Central University. He was for years associated with his father in mercantile pursuits and succeeded to the business still conducted by him. Mr. Shackelford has for years been an influential citizen both from a business and a political viewpoint in Richmond. He is both a York Rite and a Scottish Rite Mason, as well as a Shriner. He was made a Mason September, 1904. Received the degrees both of the Chapter and Commandery the following year, 1905, in the local bodies. He was elected Master of his Lodge December, 1907, serving one year. He has also served as High Priest of his Chapter and Commander of his Commandery.
