A History of Masonry in Madison County, Kentucky 1812-1913, compiled and written by Robert R. Burnam, 1914, p. 68. CHRISTOPHER CRITTENDEN BALL was born in Lincoln County, Kentucky, May 18, 1813. He was the son of Lewis Ball and Lucy Singleton both of whom were born in Virginia. Lewis Ball was a lineal descendant of Col. William Ball, who was an uncle of Mary, the mother of Washington. The subject of this sketch was a saddler by trade, and came to Richmond in 1839. He married Miss Emily Porter and raised a large family. He was elected Police Judge of Richmond and served as such for many years. He was a ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church, and an ardent churchman. He was an intense Union man during the war. After the close of hostilities he removed to Jasper County, Missouri. Here he engaged in farming. He was also elected as a Magistrate of the County. Judge Ball was made a Mason in 1840. He was elected Master of his Lodge in 1847 and reelected in 1851-56-57. He served his Lodge with fidelity in the various subordinate offices. After his removal to Missouri he demitted and affiliated with a Lodge in that State. He never lost his love for the Order. He died October 9, 1881, and was buried with Masonic honors.
