ALFRED J. SILLS, Lyon County, was born in Trigg County, this State, March
11, 1848, the eldest son of Lemuel and Elizabeth (Wallace) Sills, natives
respectively of North Carolina and Tennessee.  The father was a farmer, but
at various times was in the employ of the Tennessee Rolling Mills, situated
in Lyon County on the Cumberland River.  His widow still survives him, as
do also the nine children of the family:  Fatie, A. J., Elbert G., Francis
L., Emma C., Charlie H., Douglas, Blanche C. and Mattie M.  Our subject
came with his parents to Lyon County when about four years old.  At nine
years of age he was employed by the Tennessee Rolling Mills, and has since
been connected with those great industrial works, being the present
superintendent of them.  His success in life has been due to his own
efforts, which have been sufficient to place him among the respected and
most enterprising of citizens.  He married Mary Ovey, and has a family of
five children:  William L., Alfred O., Wilfred C., Maude M., and Eddie K.
