Livingston Co.

A.J. RAMAGE, Livingston County, was born in the Dyer's Hill Precinct,
December 17, 1845, and is a son of Jackson and Sallie (Edwards) Ramage.
The father was born in 1811, in North Carolina.  When Jackson Ramage was
a young man he moved to this county with his mother, and settled in the
Dyer's Hill Precinct.  There he farmed until his death in April, 1882.  
The mother died about 1860.  The parents were members of the Salem Baptist
Church.  Subject is the sixth of a family of eight children, of whom six
are now living: Frances, wife of Rafe Moss, died February, 1885, Harriet,
wife of Joshua Alsbrook, Mary E., Sarah J., wife of Michael McElmury,
John and W.C.  A.J. Ramage commenced life for himself when twenty years of
age, and began clerking for C.B. Davis, at Smithland.  He remained with
this gentleman until October, 1873, when he opened a store for himself 
and has since been in the business.  He now carries a stock of about 
$1,900.  Mr Ramage was married September 2, 1873, to Miss Susan E. Dunlap,
daughter of Robert and Mary A. (Hampton) Dunlap, natives of Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Ramage was born in Livingston County, April 8, 1856, and is the 
mother of three children, two of whom are living - Hallie and Fannie.
