Kentucky: A History of the State, Perrin, Battle, Kniffin, 4th ed., 1887, Lincoln County. GEORGE B. COOPER, county clerk of Lincoln County, Ky., was born in Lincoln County in 1857, and is the fifth of a family of eleven children born to George B. Cooper and Susan F. (Burton) Cooper. The first representative of the Cooper family in Lincoln County was Joseph Cooper, who settled on the land which is now the site of Hustonville in the west part of the county. His wife was a Miss Blain, and their family consisted of George B., John M. and Mary Cooper. George B. Cooper, Sr., was born on the 3d of January, 1818, reared in Lincoln County and first married Martha Burton, who was a daughter of Archibald Burton, and who died leaving one child, Martha Cooper. His second wife, Susan F. Burton, was a younger sister of his former wife. By this union he had a family of eleven children as follows: Joseph, Mary, Annie, Bettie, George B., Mittie, John M., Rosa, Archie, Joseph and Jennie. It will be noticed that the eldest and tenth members of this family bore the same name, and a remarkable coincidence is the further fact that both were born on the same day of the same month, both died on the same day of the same month, and at the same age, of the same disease. George B. Cooper, Sr., removed from Kentucky to Texas where he died May 14, 1880, and where his wife still lives. George B. Cooper, Jr., was married May 31, 1881, to Miss Amanda W. Cook, daughter of James M. and Lucy B. Cook of Lincoln County. Their children are Lucille and George E. Cooper. For a number of years Mr. Cooper has engaged in merchandising, but in August, 1886, was elected to the office which he is now acceptably filling. He is an honored member of the A.F. & A.M.
