WETZEL was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, September 10, 1851, and is the eldest son of A. and Cornelia (Prediger) Wetzel. A. Wetzel was born in Germany in 1816, came to the United States in 1844 and settled at Portsmouth, Ohio. He was a locksmith by trade, but farmed about four years near Newport, Ky. Mrs. Cornelia Wetzel was also born in Germany. Henry H. Wetzel was reared in Newport, educated at the common schools, and also took a commercial course at Cincinnati in 1874. He learned cigar making, working at his trade about three years; when then a street car conductor in Cincinnati about four months, and next was a bookkeeper in Newport one year, and then in the lumber business in Newport for some time. He was married, February 2, 1886, to Miss Callie Williams, of Jessamine County, a daughter of Robert and Mary (Crutchfield) Williams. Robert Williams was a stone contractor and died at the age of thirty-five. Mrs. Williams is still living. She and Mr. and Mrs. Wetzel are members of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Wetzel owns 228 acres of land in Lee District, five miles southwest of Nicholasville where he resides.
