Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. JAMES A. ROBERTS is a son of Rankin and Nancy (Jones) Roberts, natives of Jessamine County, Ky. The grandfather, Thomas Roberts, a native of Virginia, settled in Kentucky in 1792. James A. was born in 1842 in Jessamine County, Ky., and received his education at the common schools. He enlisted in September, 1862, in Company B., Eighth Kentucky, Cluke's regiment (Morgan's cavalry), was wounded at Bull's Gap, E. Tenn., and served until the close of the war. Since then he has been engaged in farming. He was married, in 1875, to Rossa Belle Oldham, of Fayette County, and there have been born to him three children: William Rankin, Nancy Belle and Florida M.
