PHILLIPS, a native of Jessamine County, was born July 30, 1812, and is the youngest child born to William and Elizabeth (Moss) Phillips, natives of Maryland and Virginia. His father came early to Kentucky and engaged in farming. He died in 1814, his wife in 1867. Henry H. Phillips was reared on the farm where he now resides, and has always been a farmer. He was married in December, 1833, to Matilda Pickeral, a native of Fleming County, Ky. They have six children now living: Martha, Sallie, William H., Theodore, Delilah and Thomas; Jennie and Lucinda deceased. Theodore and Thomas are residing in Winchester, Ky. Matilda (Pickeral) Phillips was born March 11, 1813, a daughter of Henry and Sarah Pickeral, natives of Virginia. Henry H. Phillips was deputy sheriff under Mr. Dickerson during his first term in 1854. He owns 310 acres of land in Lee Precinct. He and wife are consistent members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and in politics he is a Democrat. He was employed as war inspector of horses and mules at Camp Nelson during the war.
