Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. MRS. ELIZABETH J. MILLER is the widow of Francis Miller, and daughter of James and Matilda (Goodrich) Williams. Francis Miller was born five miles south of Nicholasville, in Jessamine County, December 11, 1829. He was reared on a farm until he was seventeen years old, then he attended school at Nicholasville for some time, and afterward sold goods at Nicholasville as a clerk for a year of [sic] so, then went to Estill County, opened a store of his own and kept it about thirty years. He also owned a large grist and saw mill about two miles south of Irvin [sic], in Estill County, and carried on farming extensively. He married Elizabeth J., daughter of James and Matilda (Goodrich) Williams, December 11, 1851. James Williams was born in Clark County, Ky., and Matilda Goodrich Williams in Virginia. Mrs. Elizabeth Miller's father died in his fifty-sixth year, the mother in her seventy-seventh year. To the union of Elizabeth Williams and Francis Miller were born ten children, of whom the following are living: James W., Lucy C. (married to Steve Snowden), Matilda C., Sarah Belle (married to Hon. B. Stacy), John P., Susan E. (Married to William Richardson), Rosie N. (married to Andrew J. Sageser) and Forrest F. Francis Miller was a Master Mason in good standing and had filled all the offices of the lodge. He was a man of large influence, and was always ready to give a helping hand in time of need. He was a strict member of the Methodist Church South, and died March 5, 1885. His widow is comfortably situated on the home-stead of 205 acres in Sulphur Well District, and she and all the children, except Forrest F., are members of the Methodist Church South.
