McDOWELL, only son of William and Henrietta (Simpson) McDowell, of Jessamine County, was born August 12, 1860. July 5, 1881, he married Miss Georgia Allin, of Jackson County, Mo., daughter of Benjamin and Jennie (Taylor) Allin, the mother a native of Anderson County, Ky., and the father of Mercer County, Ky. William McDowell was born August 11, 1829, and his wife August 12, 1831; the latter died October 18, 1879. Samuel W.'s grandfather, Samuel McDowell, was a native of Virginia, came to Kentucky about 1800 and was in the war of 1812. William McDowell was in the Mexican war. Samuel W. McDowell settled on his present place on the Union Mills Pike in Marble Creek District, six miles east of Nicholasville, where he has twenty-four and a half acres. He has two children: Garland and Samuel, and he and his wife are members of the Methodist Church.
