MARCELLUS McDANIEL was born in Georgetown, Scott Co., Ky, December 10, 1831, and is the second son of Alfred and Abigie (Patterson) McDaniel. Alfred McDaniel was born in Virginia in March, 1805, came to Kentucky when quite a boy with his parents; settled in Scott County, was a farmer and died in October, 1865. Mrs. Abigie McDaniel was born in Scott County, and died in June, 1886. The Doctor's maternal grandfather, William Patterson, was born in Virginia and was a farmer. The paternal grandfather, Jesse McDaniel, was born in Scotland and was also a farmer. Dr. McDaniel was reared on a farm in Scott County, Ky., having been removed from Georgetown when one year old. In 1854 he commenced to read medicine under Dr. W. H. Barlow, attended the Ohio Medical College at Cincinnati, the winter of 1855-56, the winter of 1858-59 he attended the Eclectic School of Medicine at Cincinnati, Ohio, and graduated in March 1859. He also took a private course in physiology. He practiced twelve years in Williamstown, Grant Co., Ky., and also practiced in Mercer and Jessamine Counties. He is now turning his attention to farming and stock raising. He was married, July 16, 1872, to Miss Bettie D. Sparks, of Jessamine county, daughter of J.B. and Sallie D. (Wilmore) Sparks. J.B. Sparks was born in Shelby County, Ky, in December, 1809; was engaged in the manufacture of tobacco and cigars for several years in Lexington, and was also in the hardware business, Nicholasville, for about seven years. He died November 6, 1873. Mrs. Sallie D. Sparks was born in Jessamine County and died September 14, 1883. To the Doctor and his wife has been born one child, Jerome Alfred, May 28, 1882. They also have an adopted son, who has been with them since he was thirty months old. He is a nephew of the Doctor's wife and is named Thomas Sparks Barr, born March 15, 1873, a son of Robert and Kittie (Sparks) Barr. The Doctor and wife are members of the Christian Church. The family reside on and own 130 acres of good land in Lee District, seven miles west of Nicholasville, Jessamine County, Ky.
