Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. J. KNIGHT LOWRY was born November 27, 1829, the eldest son of J. H. and Nancy D. (Knight) Lowry. J. H. Lowry was born in Jessamine County in 1801, was educated at the common schools, and was a farmer all his life. Nancy D. Lowry was born in Jessamine County. J. K.'s paternal grandfather was named Melvin Lowry, and was born in Virginia. J. K. Lowry was reared on a farm in his native county of Jessamine, five miles west of Nicholasville, and has farmed all his life. He was married, May 7, 1856, to Maggie J. Scott, of Jessamine County, daughter of Jordan and Margaret (Price) Scott. Jordan Scott was born in January, 1802, and died in January, 1867. Margaret Scott was born in Woodford County, Ky., and died in 1838. Mrs. Lowry's paternal grandfather was named John Two Nine Scott, born in Pennsylvania. Ten children have been born to Mr. Lowry and wife, viz.: George S., Anna S., Marcus K., Mary (married to T. M. Handy), Jordan S., Sallie B. Maggie B., Lawrence J., Decema and Grant K. (died January 11, 1886). Mr. and Mrs. Lowry and all the children are members of the Methodist Church South. He owns 300 acres of land in Lee District six miles southwest of Nicholasville, on the Pleasant Hill Turnpike.
