Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. A. H. JEWELL was born March 6, 1857, and is the second son of John and Mary (Tillett) Jewell. John Jewell was born in Jessamine County, in May, 1812, was a stock raiser and farmer, and died December 13, 1882. Mrs. Mary Jewell was born in Bourbon County, Ky., and is still living. A. H. Jewell was born and reared on a farm five miles southwest of Nicholasville, Jessamine County, and was educated at Central University, Richmond, Ky., from which university he was graduated. At present he is extensively engaged in buying and shipping livestock of all kinds, and has shipped to all cities of any note between Montgomery, Ala., and New York City. He was married November 25, 1884, to Miss Lizzie Berry, of Harrison County, Ky., daughter of John M. Berry and Louisa C. (Dawson) Berry. John M. Berry was born in Scott County, Ky., in April, 1831, and is still living. He, also, is a farmer and stock trader. Mrs. Louisa C. Berry was born in Uniontown, Fayette Co., Penn., and is still living. The paternal grandfather of Mrs. Jewell, George Berry, was born in Scott County, Ky.; was colonel in the late war on the Federal side, and was killed at Cynthiana, Ky. To Mr. and Mrs. Jewell one child has been born, John Berry. Mr. Jewell is a member of the Christian Church, but his wife is a Presbyterian. He owns 147 acres of land in Lee District, Jessamine County, six miles west of Nicholasville, on the Nicholasville, Lexington and Harrodsburg Turnpike.
