Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. JOHN C. FERRELL was born July 12, 1845, and is the eldest son of George W. and Leaner (Quimby) Ferrell. George W. Ferrell was born in Jessamine County, October 11, 1814, was a farmer, and died June 28, 1877. Mrs. Leaner Ferrell, was born in Jessamine County, October 29, 1812, and died April 4, 1883. Mr. Ferrell's paternal grandfather, Daniel, was born in Pennsylvania, came to Kentucky in an early day, and made several trips back to his old home on horseback. He died in Jessamine County, Ky., at quite an old age. John C. Ferrell now lives on the farm he was born and reared on, eight miles southeast of Nicholasville, on the Watts Mills and Sugar Creek Turnpike. He was educated at the common schools, farmed up to 1865, and then commenced to sell goods at what is known as Ferrell's store, which was also the post office, and he the postmaster up to 1877. He was then compelled to suspend business, and take charge of the farm on account of the death of his father. Mr. Ferrell was married April 6, 1869, to Miss Florida, daughter of Silas and Jane (Overstreet) Bruner, of Jessamine County. Silas Bruner died Jun 2, 1872; Jane (Overstreet) Bruner, October 15, 1865. Florida Ferrell's paternal grandmother, Fannie Crouch, was born in Pennsylvania, and came to this State at the age of twelve years, and was in the fort at Boonesborough with Daniel Boone, and witnessed the killing of Pompey, the negro renegade. She was married to Christian Bruner, lived in this county, and died at quite an advanced age. To Mr. and Mrs. Ferrell has been born one child, Mattie Olive, born September 19, 1871. Mr. Ferrell and wife belong to the Christian CHurch at Little Hickman, and he owns 240 acres of good land.
