Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Jessamine Co. HOLMAN R. CROW, native of Bourbon County, Ky., was born July 26, 1816, and is the eldest son of Eli and Sallie (Fathergill) Crow, natives of Bourbon County. The paternal grandfather, Leonard Crow, was born in Maryland. Joshua Fathergill, the maternal grandfather, was a native of Scotland. Eli Crow came to Jessamine County about 1820, located on a farm, and still lives in Jessamine County; was born in 1790. Sallie Crow died in 1834. Holman R. Crow was brought up on a farm until seventeen years old, when he went to learn the carpenter's trade at Lexington, serving three years' apprenticeship. In the meantime he moved from the country and established his livery stable in Nicholasville in 1849; has since been engaged in the livery, and has of late years added farming to his business. He was married, October 21, 1841, to Elizabeth A. Dennis, of Jessamine County. She died May 24, 1885, and was born May 24, 1819. To them were born four children: Mary J. (Glass), Sarah B. (Peyton), Margaret G. (Sparks), and William H. Crow, born in November, 1856. Mr. Crow owns fifty acres in Keene Precinct. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. His wife's parents were David and Margaret (Thompson) Dennis, natives of Pennsylvania and Virginia, respectively. Mr. Dennis died in 1861 at the age of ninety-one; his wife in 1862. Eli Crow, the father of Holman, was a soldier in the war of 1812, and died December 29, 1886, aged ninety- seven years.
