ROBERT PERRY BLACKFORD was born November 26, 1814, and is a son of Anthony and Elizabeth (Duncan) Blackford, both natives of Jessamine County. His paternal grandfather, Benjamin Blackford, was a native of New Jersey. Robert's father was drafted in the war of 1812, but hired a substitute. He was a shoemaker by occupation, and died about 1843; was born in 1792; six of his children are still living. Robert Perry Blackford was reared on the farm, and in 1832, went to Shelby County, Mo., and ran a carding machine. In 1844 he returned to Nicholasville, and ran a carding machine until about 1851, then he bought a small house and land and a woolen factory; quitting this in 1863, he has since farmed. He was married in January, 1847, to Susan V. (McGee) Dedman, of Jessamine, daughter of Seth McGee (deceased), of Jessamine County. Seven children were born to this union: Elizabeth (deceased), Llewllyn, Fannie, Alvin, Emily, Addie, Robert L. He owns fifty-four acres in Lee Precinct, and is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
