unknown. These clippings are about 100 years old (1997).  Reprinted in
Kentucky Explorer, Volume 10, Number 3 - August, 1995.  p. 95. Jefferson
County.

     Joseph Merrill, born in Maryland in 1777 and came to Louisville when
seventeen years old; married in 1800 Mildred Hooper, born in Virginia in
1781.  One of Mildred's sisters married an Overstreet and another John W.
Taylor, of Shelbyville.  Overstreet and Didlake were once merchants in
Louisville.  Mildred's father was William Hooper.  May have been related to
the "signer" William Hooper.  William Hooper was living in Louisville at
the time of the dreadful earthquake of 1811-12; subsequently moved to
north Alabama.
