Kentucky: A History of the State, Perrin, Battle, Kniffin, 8th ed., 1888, Jefferson Co. W. B. LEATHERMAN, dentist, is a native of Jefferson County, and was born October 7, 1852. He is a son of Joseph L. and Sarah Jane (Shadburn) Leatherman, also natives of Jefferson County. His grandfather Leatherman was a native of Germany, and came to Virginia when quite young, but remained there only a short time, when he came to Kentucky, at a period when he could have bought the land upon which Louisville stands at $1 per acre, but not liking the swampy nature of it, went out to what was called Oak Hills, where he paid $10 per acre. His voyage to this State was on a raft of logs, down the Ohio river. The subject of his sketch commenced practice of dentistry in this city in 1876. In December, 1887, he married Miss Ella A. Wolfe, a daughter of Hon. S. K. Wolfe, a prominent lawyer of New Albany, Ind. and at one time member of congress from the New Albany district. Dr. Leatherman is a zealous member of the Christian Church, and his father was instrumental in first bringing Rev. Alexander Campbell to Jeffersontown. Mr. Campbell established a church there then, which still exists. Leatherman Shadburn Wolfe = IN VA Germany http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/jefferson/leatherman.wb.txt
