Maddox and Sallie Tichenor Maddox, and was born in Ohio County, Kentucky, near Rockport on September 13, 1865. In early life he professed faith in Christ and was baptized by his father into the fellowship of West Providence Church in his native County. By this Church he was licensed to preach in October, 1889. After attending school at Bethel College he was ordained by his home church on December 28, 1895. Elders J. S. Coleman, A. G. Davis, D. J. K. Maddox, A. B. Smith, L. W. Tichenor, J. T. Casebier, H. P. Brown, T. M. Morton, and G. W. Gordon formed the unusually large presbytery. Thus began a ministry which was to last for thirty years. In that time he preached to churches in Hopkins, Christian, Henderson, Ohio, and Muhlenberg Counties. He also preached to churches in Tennessee and Missouri. His pastorates in this Association were: Render, 1898-1899; Brushy Fork, 1899; Small House, 1900-1901; Station, 1901-1904; Sacramento, 1914-1916; Friendship, 1923-1925. During the last three years of his life his health would not permit his active participation in the ministry. He departed this life on January 30, 1929. His remains were interred in the East Lawn cemetery in Hopkins County. Brother Maddox first married Miss Frances Barnard. One child, a daughter, was born to this union. His first wife died in 1901 and in 1903 he was united in marriage to Miss Donna Brown. To this union four children were born. These, with his second wife, survived him. His ministry was very extensive and useful and a great amount of good was accomplished. He was a brother of Elder Albert Maddox.
