Kentucky: A History of the State, Perrin, Battle & Kniffin, 2nd ed., 1885, Hopkins Co. ELIJA BASSETT, of the firm of Bassett Bros., livery, was born December 14, 1852, in Hopkins County, Ky. He is a son of Amos and Lucy W. (Nisbet) Bassett. He was reared on his father's farm and received a good common school education. At the age of twenty-one he secured employment in W. A. Nisbet's livery stable, and since that time has been engaged in this line of business. In 1882, he, with his brothers George and William, opened a stable opposite the Belmont House. Their stock consists of fifteen to twenty horses, and a like number of vehicles. Mr. Bassett was married, March 27, 1884, to Mrs. Rover, of Hopkins County.
