Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Oldham Co. O. H. POLLARD was born at Eminence, Henry County, May 3, 1859. His father was Nicholas Pollard, a grandson of Capt. Elijah Pollard, who came from Virginia and was one of the first settlers of Kentucky. Nicholas Pollard was married to Martha Fuqua, daughter of Richard Fuqua, who was also from Virginia, and of French descent, and the family have now in their possession a parchment bearing a commission signed by Thomas Jefferson, appointing Joseph Fuqua, great-grandfather of our subject, captain of the Virginia militia. He was a farmer by occupation, and died in 1860, when our subject was only a year old. Our subject was reared in Eminence, and educated at Eminence College, studied law at Louisville University, and graduated from both these places with honors in each of his classes, and in consequence was elected valedictorian, delivering the Latin valedictory in the literary and the English in the legal college. After graduating from Eminence in 1878 and from Louisville in 1880 he began the practice of law in Louisville in the office of Gibson & Gibson. In 1882 he moved to New Castle. In August, 1886, he was elected to the office of county attorney for four years, and is the present incumbent. He has a lucrative practice for a young attorney, and bids fair to lead in his profession. He married in December 1886, Miss Maud Kelly, of New Castle, a daughter of Nicholas Kelly, a merchant and leading citizen of that place.
