Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Henry Co. DR. JOHN LONG, the oldest physician of Pleasureville, Ky., was born in Woodford County, January 9, 1812. His father, Thomas Long, of Virginia, came to Kentucky in 1790 with his father, settled in Lexington, Ky., where he resided for twenty years, and then moved to Woodford County, and staid [sic] two years; he fought six months in the war of 1812 under Gen. Harrison, and then moved to Shelby County, where he died. His wife, the mother of our subject, was Nancy Jackson, a relative of Andrew Jackson. Our subject was educated at the county schools. He studied medicine one year at the Louisville Medical College, and one year at the St. Louis Medical College, graduating in 1847. He then went to Bullitt County, Ky., and practice one year, then came to Henry County, where he has practiced ever since. In 1839 he was united in marriage with Lavinia Otis, of Louisville, who died in 1843, leaving one child, Annie. In 1847 Dr. Long married Sarah Pepper, of Woodford County, who died in 1850, leaving one child, Ella. In 1851 he married Nancy Crabb, of Henry County, who bore him two children: John and Emma. Dr. Long owns eighty-five acres of fine land in Henry County, and is a member of the Baptist Church. In politics he is a Democrat.
