Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Henry Co. B. B. HAYDON was born in Henry County, Ky., March 5, 1843, the younger of two children born to F. B. and Laurinda (Elston) Haydon. F. B. was born in Henry County, a son of Benjamin, and passed his life in farming and stock raising. Benjamin Haydon was born in Virginia, was one of the first settlers of Henry County, helped to build the forts at Louisville and Lexington, was a very successful farmer, and died at the age of ninety years. Mrs. Laurinda Haydon was born in Henry County, a daughter of David and Rhoda (Crooper) Elston. Our subject was reared on a farm and received his education in the common schools. In 1870 he engaged in farming, then commenced to clerk in a store in Carroll County, where he remained one year; then resigned to engage in buying, selling and trading in stock, such as cattle, hogs and sheep. He shipped to Louisville and Cincinnati and continued in this business for a period of five years. He was next appointed deputy sheriff and served six years. He owns 160 acres of fine land near New Castle. In February, 1876, he married Miss Margaret Sewell, of Henry County, daughter of Walter Sewell. Three children blessed this union: Laura, Stella and Warren. Mr. and Mrs. Haydon are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. He is also a member of the Masonic fraternity, of the Royal Arch degree. Miss Mallie Sewell makes her home with Mr. and Mrs. Haydon.
