Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Henry Co. JACOB HARDESTY is a native Kentuckian, and was born in Bourbon County, February 1, 1816, the fifth of a family of thirteen children born to Benjamin and Nancy (Sageser) Hardesty. He resided only about five years in his native county, when he removed with his parents to Fayette County, and at the age of twenty-one came to Henry County, where he has since resided. He has always been engaged in farming, stock raising and stock trading, and frequently shipped cattle and sheep to New Orleans. He has been very successful at farming and trading, and owns 180 acres of fine land near Eminence. He married, October 19, 1837, D. M. Mathews, of Fayette County, Ky., daughter of Dr. Samuel and Polly (Kemper) Mathews. Of the ten children born to this union, seven are living: Mary C. Sullivan, Thomas W., John M., Delia Pendegrass, Martha., William P., Basil D. Mr. and Mrs. Hardesty are members of the Baptist CHurch. He is a Master Mason in good standing, a member of Eminence Lodge. As a citizen he is popular, and now in his old days he has many friends and no enemies.
