Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 6th ed., 1887, Henry Co. DR. SANFORD BRENT, retired physician, was born in Washington County, Ky., July 5, 1800, the eldest of four sons and seven daughters born to William and Elizabeth (Simmons) Brent. His father was born in Fauquier County, Va., in August, 1777, came to Kentucky in 1798, and located in Henry County (now Trimble) and there resided until his death in 1851. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, and one of the influential citizens of his day. Mrs. Elizabeth Brent was also a native of Fauquier County, and a member of Missionary Baptist Church. Our subject passed his early life, until he was nineteen years old, on the home farm. He then attended the high school at Bardstown for two years, and in 1821 began the study of medicine with a view of making it a lifelong profession. After studying under Dr. John W. Bright, of new Castle, for two years, he entered the medical department of the Transylvania University at Lexington, from which he graduated with high honor in 1824. He then practiced near Campbellsburg, Henry County, for six years, then for eight years in Shelby County, when, on account of failing health he retired. He was united in marriage, December 7, 1826, with Nancy Scott, of Henry County, and seven sons and four daughters were born to them: Levy (deceased), William, Rolland, George (deceased), James, Newton, David, Elizabeth, Mary, Eliza (deceased) and Harriet. Politically, Dr. Brent was formerly an old line Whig, but since the birth of the Republican party has cast his ballots in its favor. He has a farm of 200 acres near Campbellsburg which he successfully manages; is a member of the Presbyterian Church, and of the Masonic fraternity, and is justly considered one of Henry County's honored and worthy citizens.
