"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, p. 292. Used by permission. [Henderson] THOMAS L. BROOKS: We are inclined to believe that this useful minister was a brother of Elder A. J. Brooks. He was born in 1820 in Ohio County. He was licensed to preach by the Bell's Run Church in February, 1856, and ordained by the same church in July, 1858. Elders J. P. Ellis, J. B. Haynes, D. Whittinghill, D. J. Phillips, and J. S. Taylor composed the ordaining council. He was immediately called to the pastoral care of the Bell's Run Church serving until February, 1860. After his pastorate was finished at Bell's Run Brother Brooks moved to McLean County and on the second Sunday in September, 1860, assisted in constituting the Bethel Baptist Church near Beech Grove on six members. He immediately became pastor of this new church, his membership in the meantime having been moved to the Brushy Fork Church. In 1864 he moved his membership to the Bethel Church. How long he remained as pastor of this church is hard to determine. As late as 1873 he was a messenger to the Association from the church. After that date no other record is found concerning his life other than the date of his death on October 27, 1902, at Niagara, in Henderson County. It is to be presumed that he spent the latter part of his ministry in Henderson and Webster Counties.
