Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1885, Hart County. DAVID GALLOWAY was born in Green County, Ky., May 22, 1818, and is the fifth of ten children born to Isham and Dicy (Slinker) Galloway, both natives of Virginia and of English and German descent respectively. Isham Galloway was born August 24, 1789. In 1795 he was brought by his parents to Kentucky; the family settled on Caney Branch, Green County. After attaining his majority Isham Galloway bought wild land near the homestead and was extensively engaged in agricultural pursuits, making the culture of tobacco a speciality until 1832, when he sold out and bought a farm near Woodsonville, in Hart County, upon which he resided until his death, May 29, 1847; he was for some years mail agent from Greensburg to Bowling Green. He and wife are devoted members of the Separate Baptist Church, in which he officiated as deacon for many years. His father, Daniel Galloway, was a native of Virginia, where he married Miss Rebecca, a daughter of William Woodard, a Revolutionary soldier; he was among the earliest pioneers of Green County, Ky., and one of the most prominent farmers. Mrs. Dicy Galloway's death occurred May 27, 1869, in her eightieth year; her father, Frederick Slinker, was also a native of Virginia, and a soldier in the Continental Army. He also was one of the pioneers and prominent farmers of Green County, Ky. David Galloway is a man of excellent general information, having been an extensive, close and careful reader all his life, and is more than ordinarily well informed. In 1860 he came to Hart county, where he bought 141 acres of wild land some six miles east of Horse Cave, and has since improved the farm upon which he now resides, making the culture of tobacco a speciality. He was married, April 28, 1842, to Miss Elizabeth Grinstead, a native of Glasgow, Barren Co., Ky., where she was born January 15, 1821. She is a daughter of Henry and Sallie (Ferrell) Grinstead, both natives of Virginia and of English descent. Nine children - six sons and three daughters - all of whom are living, have blessed their union. Their names are as follows: Sarah J., Alexander G., Thomas A., Daniel M., Isham H., James W., William D., Mary F. (now Mrs. George H. Hord) and Marsha S. Mr. Galloway and wife are members of the Christian Church, in which he officiates as deacon. In politics he is a Democrat.
