Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1885, Hardin Co. ALBERT WATKINS, one of the principal grocers and leading business men of Elizabethtown, Ky., was born near the present village of Uptonville, in La Rue [sic] County, in 1838, and is the fourth in a family of twelve children born to Samuel and Rachel (Brashear) Watkins, two of the oldest and most highly respected families of central Kentucky. Their children--six sons and six daughters--all grew to maturity, and their families are numbered among the substantial element of Hardin and Ra [sic] Rue Counties. The father is deceased, but the mother is still living, at an advanced age. After receiving the benefits of a good English education in the common schools, Albert Watkins commenced his mercantile career in Uptonville, Ky., where he remained until moving to Elizabethtown, Ky., in 1883, where he now prosecutes a very successful business. In 1869, in Hart County, Ky., he married Miss Alice Keith, daughter of Warren T. Keith, of that county. They have three children, named as follows: Fannie, Amy and Boyce Watkins. Mr. Watkins is a member of the A. F. & A. M., and both he and his esteemed wife are honored members of the Baptist Church.
