Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1885, Hardin Co. S.T. NALL, son of Robert and Elizabeth (Holman) Nall, was born May 15, 1837, in Allison's Precinct, Hardin County. The father and mother both came from Virginia in early life to Washington County, Ky., where they married; soon after that event they moved to Hardin County, and were among the earliest settlers. The birth of Robert Nall occurred in 1804, and his death in 1876. He pursued the occupation of farming through life, and owned at his death 640 acres of land in Nall Valley. The marriage of Robert Nall occurred in 1829, to Miss Elizabeth Holman, daughter of Daniel and Sallie Holman, of Virginia, but who lived in Hardin County, Ky., at the time of their daughter's marriage. He left five children: Cyrus H., Daniel W., S. T. (subject), Sarah E. (Harris) and Lou (Miller). The opportunities of S. T. Nall for acquiring an education while young were very indifferent, owing to the character of the schools of his day, but he spent his evenings at home in study, and when he attained his majority had a fair business education. His life was spent mostly in farming on his father's farm, where he lived until 1876, the year of his father's death. He married, September 27, 1871, Elizabeth G. Calvin, daughter of B. D. and Elizabeth (Patton) Calvin, who at the time of marriage lived in Hardin County, but had previously lived in Meade. Mr. Nall settled on his present location, a beautiful and well cultivated tract of 105 acres in the Nall Valley, in 1876. He soon after erected a neat and comfortable frame residence on his place, good barns and stables, and began life for himself as a farmer, in which he has been very successful. He raises all the cereals common to this climate, and also some cattle for the market. His marriage has been blessed by eight children (the second of whom died in infancy): Elizabeth Levantia, Mattie L., Robert Beal, Virgil Lewis, James William, Calvin Thomas and Jessie Ann. He is a member of the Blue Ball Congregation of the United Baptist Church, and in politics is and always has been a consistent Democrat, but he has never sought nor held any office.
