A History of Kentucky Baptists From 1769 to 1885, Including More Than 800 Biographical Sketches, J. H. Spencer, Manuscript Revised and Corrected by Mrs. Burilla B. Spencer, In Two Volumes. Printed For the Author. 1886. Republished By Church History Research & Archives 1976 Lafayette, Tennessee. Vol. 2, pp 78-79 [Hardin County] JAMES H. JENKINS was ordained at Nolin church, in 1857, and is still a member of that body. He is not regarded a brilliant preacher; but he is well versed in the Scriptures, and his sermons are sound and practical. His piety is of the best and most practical type, and he exercises a strong influence, out of the pulpit, as well as in it. One of his neighbors, being asked why there was so little quarreling and litigation in his neighborhood, replied, "Jimmie and Ben Jenkins live among us."
