"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, p. 286. Used by permission. [Hardin] JAMES THOMAS BARROW: This outstanding minister of the Gospel was born in Logan County, Kentucky, in the year 1842. He became a Christian early in life and was baptized into the fellowship of the Centre Church in his native county. By this same church he was licensed to preach in July, 1863, and ordained in June, 1864. Besides serving his home church he served Concord for a period of seventeen years. He also served the Little River, South Union, Princeton, and Cadiz churches from one to eight years. From the years 1890 to 1895 he served the Athens and Sweetwater churches in Tennessee. In the year 1895 he accepted the care of the Walnut Street Church in Owensboro, Kentucky, where he served acceptably for a period of three years, 1895-1898. He also preached the Annual Sermon in 1896. In the latter part of the year 1898 he became pastor of the churches at Elizabethtown and Gilead. At Elizabethtown his death suddenly occurred when he was hit by a moving railroad train, on July 10, 1899. As a pastor he was faithful in teaching and training the members and in warning and exhorting sinners. He rendered much valuable aid in a number of protracted meetings. He was of genial character and was much esteemed by his many friends. He attended Bethel College in Russellville, Kentucky, for a short time and also taught school. His mind was well trained and possessed a large fund of useful knowledge, which he used to a great advantage in preaching the Gospel. At the time of his death he was survived by his wife and three children. We have no further information concerning his family.
