Greenup County

BASIL F. WARNOCK was born twelve miles from Greenup, Ky., March 6, 1842, and
is the third son of Matthew and Lydia Warnock, natives of Owen County and
Greenup County, Ky., respectively.  Matthew Warnock was born in 1807, was a
farmer, and died February 28, 1863.  Basil F. Warnock remained on the home
farm until of age, when he enlisted in the army, and served four years.  In
1879 he engaged with O. H. Dickey in the mercantile business, and for three
or four years this connection was maintained.  In 1881 he was elected to the
Legislature, was re-nominated again, but was defeated-by three votes only.
In June, 1885, he was appointed United States Deputy Commissioner for the
department of eastern Kentucky, with headquarters at Covington; had charge
of sixty-five counties, and as many deputies under him.  January 13, 1867,
he married Miss Elizabeth A. Warnock, a native of Greenup County, Ky., and a
daughter of John W. H. Warnock.  Mr. Warnock is a Freemason, and in politics
is a Democrat.
