Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, 1887 Greenup County FRANCIS B. TRUSSELL, a native of Lewis County, Ky., was born September 29, 1827. His parents were John and Rebecca (Clancy) Trussell, natives of the eastern part of Virginia. The father when quite a boy came to Lewis County, Ky., before the year 1800, engaged in farming, and there died in 1835 at the age of fifty-six years. The mother died in 1857 at the age of seventy-three. The maternal grandfather of our subject, William Clancy, who had served in the Revolution, came from Virginia to Kentucky about 1790 and settled near Paris, but afterward removed to Fleming County, where he died. The Trussell family were of English origin, and the maternal grandmother of Mrs. Rebecca (Clancy) Trussell was of French descent. Francis B. Trussell was reared on the home farm, was educated in private schools and at Richland Academy, Mason County, Ky. He read law with Harrison Taylor at Maysville, Ky., and was admitted to the bar in September, 1858. He was elected mayor of Maysville in 1861, and re-elected in 1862, serving two years, and during the recent war was Deputy Provost Marshal of the Ninth Congressional District of Kentucky. Having been appointed Commissioner of the Board of Enrollment for the draft of more recruits, he went from Maysville, in February, 1865, to Greenup, where he discharged the duties of that office until the close of the war. There he remained and became a partner of Judge W. C. Ireland in his law practice, which partnership was dissolved in 1872, when Judge Ireland removed to Ashland, Ky. Mr. Trussell has been three times elected school commissioner of Greenup County, and is now a practicing attorney at Greenup, Ky. He has been twice married; first, in 1864, to Ellen M. Robinson, of Maysville, daughter of William Robinson, deceased. This lady died in March, 1874, and in 1881 Mr. Trussell Married Nannie H. Rhodes, of Greenup. To this last marriage one child has been born, Mary C., September 29, 1885. In politics Mr. Trussell is a Republican, and in religion a Presbyterian, being an elder in that church.
