Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 4th ed., 1887 Green Co. FREDERICK CABELL was born a twin, January 7, 1814, and is the tenth in order of birth of seven sons and four daughters, all of whom lived to be grown, born to Samuel J. and Susannah (Ewing) Cabell. Samuel J. Cabell was born in Nelson County, Va., and was a wealthy farmer and slave holder; he came to Casey County, Ky., in 1808; lived one year in Boyle County, and in December, 1824, located on Blue Spring, branch of Caney Fork, Green County, on 410 acres of excellent land. He was very successful in life, and had accumulated an estate of $75,000 before his death in 1854, at the age of seventy-eight years. He was a son of John Cabell, who married a Miss Jordan, both of Virginia. His father, who was a Dr. William Cabell came from England, his mother from Ireland. Frederick Cabell was born in Casey County and lived on a farm all his life. In February, 1836, he married Paulina E. Sprowl, a native of Madison County, Ky., and daughter of Oliver Sprowl, who married a Davis. To this marriage of Frederick Cabell five children were born: Mary D. Owsley (deceased); Susan J. (deceased); Samuel J. (deceased); Oliver (deceased), and Bettie (now Ponick). Mrs. Cabell died in December, 1851, a consistent member of the Presbyterian Church, and Mr. Cabell married his second wife, Sophronia H. Lewis, in November, 1853; she was a native of Simpson County, Ky., and a daughter of John and Ann G. (Snoddy) Lewis, both natives of Virginia. To this second union six children were born: L.H.; John F.; Thomas H. (deceased); Carrie (deceased); William E. and Charles R. Mr. Cabell owned at one time 800 acres, well improved with a fine residence and other buildings; has given to his children till he now has but 550 acres; before the war he owned a large family of slaves. Mr. Cabel and wife are members of the Presbyterian Church, and formerly he was a member of the Grange.
